The Biology Centre CAS has committed to respect The European Charter for Researchers and The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and holds prestigious HR Excellence in Research Award (HR Award). Recruitment of researchers fulfils the principles of the Open, transparent, merit-based recruitment of researchers (OTM-R), which ensures unified course of selection procedure at all scientific institutes of the Biology Centre.

Fundamental principles of the OTM-R are openness, transparency and non-discrimination. Candidate requirements differ according to the nature of workload and are always specified in relevant job offer. Job offers are posted on this website and on other specialized portals. Selection procedures for research positions at the Biology Centre consist of two rounds (1st round: applications and subsequent shortlisting of candidates for the second round, 2nd round: interviews). For every selection procedure a selection committee of three members minimum is established, includes HR Department representative and is gender balanced. All candidates are informed on result of the selection procedure and every selection procedure complies with the effective EU regulation on the personal data protection.

Job description:

The position will be located in the infrastructure for soil and water research at the Biological Centre of the CAS in
České Budějovice. Our international team conducts basic research on the microbiological transformation of nitrogen and
carbon in different ecosystems. We focus on different relationships to global (climate) change.

The position is available from 1 February 2022 (however, the start date is flexible until spring 2022) for a period of 4 years with the possibility of extension. The position is for part-time staff (20 hours per week). The gross salary is 16 000 CZK per month.

What will you do?
• Molecular biological analysis (DNA, RNA extraction), PCR, real-time PCR
• measurement of the quantity and quality of nucleic acids
• preparation of samples and libraries for sequencing (2nd- and 3rd-generation sequencing),
• basic bioinformatics analysis, amplicon analysis, working with public databases
• microbiological analyses, cultivation of microorganisms and their preservation
• sampling, sample processing and basic soil parameter determination,
• setting up manipulative experiments,
• evaluation and processing of data on PC (Microsoft Office), documentation of work in the laboratory
• basic administrative support, order processing, financial records, communication with suppliers and scientists,
• organisation of work in the laboratory, close contact with clients (also with international participation

• Do you have extensive work experience in a (microbiology) laboratory?

• You independently seek creative solutions to problems and are willing to take responsibility for your work?
• Are you an advanced computer user?
• Do you have knowledge of the scientific environment (an advantage but not a requirement)?
• Is oral and written communication in English easy for you?
