The Biology Centre CAS has committed to respect The European Charter for Researchers and The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and holds prestigious HR Excellence in Research Award (HR Award). Recruitment of researchers fulfils the principles of the Open, transparent, merit-based recruitment of researchers (OTM-R), which ensures unified course of selection procedure at all scientific institutes of the Biology Centre.

Fundamental principles of the OTM-R are openness, transparency and non-discrimination. Candidate requirements differ according to the nature of workload and are always specified in relevant job offer. Job offers are posted on this website and on other specialized portals. Selection procedures for research positions at the Biology Centre consist of two rounds (1st round: applications and subsequent shortlisting of candidates for the second round, 2nd round: interviews). For every selection procedure a selection committee of three members minimum is established, includes HR Department representative and is gender balanced. All candidates are informed on result of the selection procedure and every selection procedure complies with the effective EU regulation on the personal data protection.

Job description:

The successful candidate should have the PhD or higher university degree and should be able to lead zooplankton research of IHB BC CAS. The portfolio includes continuing long term ecological monitoring of Římov Reservoir as well as pursuing own research aimed at zooplankton ecology and interactions with neighboring trophic levels in reservoirs and lakes (food-web interactions with fish populations and within whole zoo- and phytoplankton communities, evolution of interactions etc.). Institute of Hydrobiology owns multiple decades of detailed quantitative limnological data from nutrients to fish for a number of reservoirs and lakes. The successful candidate will work in an experienced and dynamic team of aquatic ecologists and is encouraged to establish new research directions and attract third-party funded projects to foster her/his own research career. Creating a research group aimed on zooplankton ecology and interdisciplinary cooperation with research groups at the universities and other research institutions will be strongly supported. The starting date of the position is negotiable. POSITION DETAILS Target start date is fall 2021 (negotiable). Initial appointment will be for 24 months, with an extension for up to 5 more years based on initial performance. We offer a highly competitive salary in local standards (up to ca. 2000 EUR monthly with additional performance bonuses for every published paper and supervised project) commensurate with the applicant’s experience and skills. Successful applicant will be encouraged to develop his/her own research agenda compatible with the mission of the Institute.

Requirements:

PhD

Ecology, Limnology, Environmental Modelling, Oceanography or similar

- PhD or higher degree in ecology, limnology, environmental modelling, oceanography or similar - Post-doctoral experience with ecological research - Proven ability to pursue scientifically demanding questions, high motivation and a vision for creative research - Prior knowledge in data treatment and analyses of large and complex datasets, multispecies size-spectra, or size-/stage-structured modelling tools is highly desired - Excellent written and spoken English - Promising publication record commensurate with the career stage - Good knowledge of aquatic ecosystem processes and past work in multidisciplinary environment will be preferred

Foreign applicants will receive support in transferring to the Czech Republic. The Institute can also help secure non-commercial accommodation at the campus shared by the Biology Centre and the University.
