Popis pracovní pozice:
We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher well-experienced in analytical chemistry who will be responsible for implementation and performation of state-of-the-art chemical analytical methods for quantification of compounds of plant (e.g. sugars, starches, lignin, phenols, and tannins) and microbial (e.g. chitin, ergosterol, and glomalin) origin. The researcher will participate on projects focusing on soil organic matter turnover, i.e. sequestration and decomposition in forest and agricultural soils in field as well as laboratory manipulation experiments. Characterization and quantification of compounds of plant and microbial origin which serve as gluing agents inside soil aggregates will bring insight into organic matter stabilization mechanisms which is currently a hot topic in environmental studies.

Chemie a/nebo biologie
• Max. seven years after obtaining a PhD degree at the start of the position on 1. 1. 2021
• Fluency in spoken and written English required; at least intermediate level, advanced preferred
• Advanced skills in analytical chemistry and experience with analytical instruments (UV/VIS spectrophotometer, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, ion chromatograph)
• Ability to work independently
• International experience (at least two years spent outside the Czech Republic within the last three years)

The successful applicant will join the Laboratory of Soil Organic Matter led by Dr. Veronika Jílková at the Institute of Soil Biology, Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Ceske Budejovice (Czech Republic). The Institute of Soil Biology is a diverse, international team (8 nationalities) studying soil zoology, microbiology and chemistry. The Laboratory of Soil Organic Matter is a new perspective team of young researchers successful in fundraising and with a good publication record maintaining modern instrumentation.
