Job description:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and independent postdoctoral researcher with a background in microbial ecology and cultivation to work on a novel and interdisciplinary project that will explore the link between actinobacteria and soil arthropods through volatile compounds. Work will involve genetic and chemical screening of pre-existing cultures in our culture collection, cultivation of novel actinobacteria strains and testing the response of soil arthropods through manipulation experiments.
Requirements:
PhD
• Maximum seven years after obtaining a PhD degree at the start of the position on 1. 1. 2021
• Fluency in spoken and written English
• Advanced skills in microbiology, microbial genetics or microbial ecology
• Experience in working with soil arthropods and/or volatiles is an advantage
• Ability to work independently
• International experience (at least two years spent outside the Czech Republic within the past three years)

Additional information:
The position is offered under the mobility project MEMOVA of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The successful applicant will join the Laboratory of Anaerobic and Molecular Microbiology led by Dr Roey Angel at the Soil and Water Research Infrastructure, Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Ceske Budejovice (Czech Republic). SoWa RI is a newly established part of the Biology Centre, whose research predominantly addresses ecological topics. The research involves collaboration across disciplines, the use of diverse methodological approaches (molecular biology, stable isotopes, field ecology, mathematical modelling, etc.), and a combination of analytical and holistic approaches to problem-solving. Core facilities with shared equipment support all of the Centre’s scientific institutes.
